Nicole Materne at Abrasives Spokane

As a local girl, former collegiate athlete, small business owner, and friend of the previous owners Mike and Lynda, I had a conversation over food and drink with them which led to Mike telling me, “You should buy our business!”  Turns out they were looking for quality owners to continue to serve their customers so they could retire and go fishing. Two months later, me and my partner Janette Atkins became sole investors in Abrasives Spokane where I then hired a team to help carry on the great reputation Abrasives Spokane has for service to its customers.

My roots go back to gravel, rock crushing plants (Materne Bros. Contractors – for road grading) to competitive golf on the women’s circuit, including the LPGA tour, to medical device sales, and owning a small clothing company (2010-2012).

MEET marvin clinesmith

Marvin Clinesmith

I was born and raised on a dryland wheat farm 100 miles south of Spokane with a long lineage of farming and ranching ancestors.  My wife and I grew up together in the small farming community of Washtucna, WA, later moving to Spokane where our two wonderful daughters finished high school.  We returned to the small country life in 1998 to Almira, WA where I retired from 23 years of service as an accountant and “customer communications director” with Almira Farmers Warehouse Co./Highline Grain Growers.  There, I learned the value of listening and learning “what” the customer needs, developing a passion to deliver excellent customer service.

We moved back to Spokane in 2020 and last year I joined the great team at Abrasives Spokane who share my passion of “great customer service”.

MEET MARc Barton

Marc Barton at Abrasives Spokane

I was born and raised in Spokane. Growing up I watched my dad and uncle race cars, which made me love everything automotive and motorcycles. I've been in some form of the car business my whole working life; from working in parts, selling truck accessories and being a service advisor, I've done a bit of everything.

On a personal note, I am involved with a local Boxer rescue and have successfully rehabilitated and rehomed 11 lives within 18 months. I have known Nicole since we were teenagers and I look forward to building new working relationships and growing Abrasives Spokane with her as we aim to meet all your needs.

While this may be a new journey for Team Grit, our commitment to service and expansion hasn’t gone unnoticed in the few short months of ownership. Partnerships, contracts, and inventory quantities have gone up 30% making your one stop, abrasives shopping needs, that much more convenient.

Come meet the new team and see the selection of the latest technology in blast cabinets, blast pots, media, vibratory compounds, buffing, grinding, finishing, blending as well as the latest options in dry ice blasting and more!
